Ingredients:
- 1/2 cup popcorn kernels
- 2-3 tablespoons oil (such as vegetable or coconut oil)
- Salt or other seasonings (optional)
Instructions:
- Place a large pot with a lid on the stove over medium heat.
- Add the oil to the pot and allow it to heat up for a minute or two.
- Add a few popcorn kernels to the pot and cover it with the lid.
- Wait for the kernels to pop. This step helps determine when the oil is hot enough for the rest of the popcorn.
- Once the test kernels have popped, remove them from the pot.
- Add the remaining popcorn kernels to the pot in an even layer.
- Cover the pot with the lid and shake it gently to coat the kernels with oil and distribute heat evenly.
- Continue shaking the pot occasionally to prevent burning and encourage even popping.
- Listen for the popping sounds. Once the popping slows down to a few seconds between pops, remove the pot from the heat.
- Keep the lid on for a minute or so to allow any remaining kernels to finish popping.
- Carefully remove the lid, keeping your face away from the steam.
- Transfer the popcorn to a large bowl and season with salt or any other desired seasonings, such as melted butter, cheese powder, or caramel sauce.
- Toss the popcorn to evenly distribute the seasonings.
- Serve and enjoy your homemade popcorn!
Note: It’s important to exercise caution when handling hot pots and lids during the popping process. Be sure to keep a safe distance from the pot to avoid burns.
